Mushroom Roti: A Flavorful Twist
Mushroom Roti is a delicious and nutritious twist on the classic Indian flatbread. Packed with the earthy flavor of mushrooms, it’s a great option for vegetarians and meat-lovers alike. Let’s dive into the recipe! Ingredients:
For the dough:
1 cup whole wheat flour1/2 teaspoon salt1 tablespoon oilWater as neededFor the filling:200 grams mushrooms, sliced1 onion, finely chopped2 green chilies, finely chopped1 inch ginger, grated2 cloves garlic, minced1 teaspoon cumin powder1/2 teaspoon coriander powder1/4 teaspoon red chili powderSalt to tasteOil for cooking Instructions:
Preparing the Dough:1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and oil.
2. Gradually add water and knead the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic.
3. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
Making the Filling:1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
2. Add the onions and green chilies, and saute until the onions turn golden brown.
3. Add the ginger and garlic, and saute for another 30 seconds.
4. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook until they are tender and most of the liquid has evaporated.
5. Stir in the cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for another minute.
6. Remove from heat and let the filling cool completely.
Assembling and Cooking the Roti:1. Divide the dough into equal-sized balls.
2. Roll out each ball into a small circle.
3. Place a spoonful of the mushroom filling in the center of the circle.
4. Bring the edges together to form a pouch and seal it tightly.
5. Gently roll out the pouch into a circular shape.
6. Heat a tawa (griddle) over medium heat.
7. Place the roti on the hot tawa and cook for a few minutes until golden brown spots appear on both sides.
8. Apply a little oil to the surface and cook until the roti is cooked through and slightly puffed up.
9. Repeat the process with the remaining dough and filling.
Serve hot with your favorite chutney or pickle.Tips:
